New FCI-IGP Rules Starting 2025 – Key Changes

Starting January 1, 2025, the new FCI-IGP regulations will take effect, introducing several significant changes to BH/IGP tests. These changes aim to simplify and standardize the rules for both participants and judges.

Key Changes:

  1. Behavior in Urban Environments: Greater emphasis on the dog’s neutral behavior in situations with cyclists, pedestrians, strollers, and other dogs. Dogs are now required to ignore noise and environmental distractions, highlighting the importance of socialization.
  2. Urban Traffic Tests: Dogs must demonstrate neutrality towards passing people and other animals, maintaining an appropriate distance and calm demeanor.
  3. Additional Tests: Optional tests such as public transport rides, encounters with horses, and passing through parks are available. A muzzle may be required in certain situations.
  4. Obedience Exercises: New criteria were introduced for evaluating the dog’s behavior during exercises such as sitting or staying under distractions, with longer duration for some exercises.
  5. Precise Evaluation Criteria: Detailed evaluation rules for exercises like “retrieving” and “distance obedience” aim to standardize how judges score dogs.

Other Notable Changes:

  • Removal of the “on-leash walking” exercise: In BH/VT tests, this exercise was removed, with more focus on other forms of control.
  • Marking Changes: Trial fields will have designated spots for placing elements like retrieving objects.
  • Removal of IGP-ZTP and IGP V tests: These test levels have been discontinued.

These changes are intended to simplify the evaluation process and provide owners and trainers with clearer guidelines for preparing dogs for the revised rules.
